1/48 PZL M18B Dromader - Polish Firefigter Aircraft (Single seater)

The PZL M18 Dromader is a Polish single-engine piston-powered aeroplane, originally developed for agricultural purposes, particularly for dusting and spraying crops. Thanks to its robust construction, the large capacity of its fuel tank situated between the engine and the cockpit, and its ability to operate from short and unpaved runways, the Dromader has spread to many countries around the world and, in addition to agriculture, has also found use as a firefighting aircraft. When used for aerial firefighting, it utilises its large-capacity tank to rapidly drop water or a fire-retardant mixture onto the source of the fire, making it a valuable tool in the fight against forest and field fires. The single-seat M18B version is designed specifically for operational use, with the crew consisting solely of the pilot.

This IBG 1:48 scale model kit captures this distinctive and easily recognisable aircraft with its characteristic angular fuselage and high-mounted cockpit. The 1:48 scale is popular for building small and medium-sized aircraft, as it allows for the refinement of details such as the engine compartment, landing gear, cockpit and surface texturing, whilst keeping the finished model at a reasonable size suitable for a display cabinet. The firefighting version of the Dromader usually features a striking colour scheme with prominent warning markings, which stand out on the model and offer scope for meticulous painting and decal application.

For modellers, the Dromader is an interesting choice beyond the usual military types – it is a civilian utility aircraft with a clear purpose and a distinctive appearance. When painting, emphasis should be placed on highlighting the panelling and adding operational grime befitting its demanding field service, such as traces of fire-fighting agent, dust or wear and tear around the engine and undercarriage. The kit does not include the paints or adhesives required for assembly.
