1/35 Sd.Kfz.250/3 'GREIF' Rommel's Command Half-Track

The Sd.Kfz. 250 was a light German half-track armoured personnel carrier which became one of the Wehrmacht’s most widely used support vehicles during the Second World War. Thanks to its combination of wheels on the front axle and a tracked chassis at the rear, it combined decent off-road mobility with sufficient manoeuvrability on roads, making it a versatile platform for a whole range of specialised variants. The Sd.Kfz. 250/3 was modified into a radio and command vehicle, fitted with an extended radio set and a distinctive antenna, enabling it to direct units directly from the battlefield and maintain communication between headquarters and the fighting units.

One particular vehicle, named ‘GREIF’ (meaning ‘Griffin’), became famous as General Erwin Rommel’s command vehicle, which he used during the North African campaign. It was from a vehicle of this type that the commander could closely monitor the course of the fighting and issue orders whilst on the move, which was in keeping with Rommel’s emphasis on a personal presence at the front line. For modellers, this is therefore a historically interesting subject linked to one of the most famous figures on the North African battlefield.

The 1:35 scale kit includes, in addition to plastic parts, a set of photo-etched parts for fine detailing, decals for the vehicle’s markings and clear parts. The assembled model can feature a movable suspension system and is fitted with functional (movable) tracks, which enhances its authenticity and allows for a more impressive display in a showcase or an African-themed diorama. The kit does not include the paints or adhesives required for assembly.
