1/32 Bücker Bü 181 Bestmann

The Bücker Bü 181 Bestmann is a 1/32-scale resin model kit of the aircraft from CMK.

The Bücker Bü 181 was a design successor to the successful Bücker Bü 131 and Bü 133 sports and training biplanes. Unlike those models, however, the Bü 181 was a low-wing aircraft with fixed landing gear and an enclosed cockpit. The wings and tail surfaces were wooden, partially covered with plywood, with the remaining sections covered in fabric. The forward section of the fuselage consisted of a tubular frame covered in fabric, while the rear section was a wooden monocoque covered in plywood. The two-man crew sat side by side. The new aircraft’s performance was outstanding, and after thorough testing by the Reich Ministry of Aviation, the Bü 181 was selected as the Luftwaffe’s standard trainer. It was officially designated the Bestmann. Serial production of the Bü 181 began in 1940, and versions B and C were produced, differing in their variants of the Hirt HM 500 A and B engines. Due to the need for trainer aircraft during the war, the Bü 181 was manufactured at the Bücker factory in Rangsdorf, as well as at the Fokker factory in the Netherlands and in Zlín, in what was then the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. During the war, the Luftwaffe used these aircraft for training, but toward the end of the war, they were deployed in defensive battles over the ever-shrinking territory of the Reich. Aircraft equipped with four Panzerfausts or a 50-kg bomb rack were deployed in combat. The kit includes three aircraft. Two are in German colors; one served as a trainer, while the other was equipped with panzerfausts and flew with the 3rd Panzerjagdstaffel. The third aircraft is in the colors of the Swiss Luftwaffe. This resin kit replaces the PLT087 kit, which is now permanently out of stock. It has been upgraded with new, improved parts for the wheels and panzerfausts.

The resin parts require trimming, test fitting, and gluing with a suitable adhesive. Paint, adhesive, and tools are not typically included in the package.
