The Boeing 314 Clipper was a large four-engine flying boat that became a symbol of luxury long-distance aviation in the late 1930s. Developed for Pan American Airways, it was capable of traversing transatlantic and transpacific routes with a high level of passenger comfort, including spacious cabins, lounges and even sleeping quarters. The first flight took place in 1938 and the type quickly became an icon of international travel.
During World War II, Boeing 314s were also used for military purposes, particularly to transport importantpersonnel and diplomatic missions, due to their long range capability and operation from bodies of water without the need for expensive runways.
