Academy 12633 USAAF C-47 Skytrain

The Douglas C-47 Skytrain was one of the most important and most widely produced transport aircraft of the Second World War. Developed as a military version of the successful Douglas DC-3 civilian transport aircraft, it became the very backbone of Allied air transport. The USAAF deployed it to transport troops, equipment and cargo, to drop paratroopers and to tow gliders. This is precisely why it played a key role in major operations such as the Normandy landings, where C-47s transported paratroopers and supplies directly to the combat zone. Its reliability, durability and versatility earned it great respect, and many of them remained in service for decades after the war.
