1/72 Bedford MWD General Service (Closed Cab, Late production)

The Bedford MWD was one of the quintessential British light trucks of the World War II period. It belonged to the 15 cwt category, i.e. smaller military utility vehicles designed for daily service in the rear and near combat units. It was not a heavily armoured or highly specialised machine, but it was vehicles like this that formed the unobtrusive backbone of army logistics: carrying supplies, tools, equipment, ammunition, communications material and other equipment needed to operate troops in the field.

The MWD General Service version was a versatile open-bodied cargo version. Various detail modifications occurred during production and service, with the later closed-cab version providing better weather protection for the crew than the earlier open or partially open variants. Bedfords of this series served with the British Army and other Allied forces and could be seen on a number of battlefields, from home service in the UK to North Africa to Western Europe to the Normandy landings.

The 1:72 scale IBG 72161 kit features a late production Bedford MWD General Service closed cab model. Its compact size makes it suitable as a complement to larger scenes with British equipment, RAF airfield dioramas or Allied vehicle columns. The model can be finished in a cleaner factory or rear appearance, but it also suits the operational patina very well - dust, mud, hull scuffs and the fine wear and tear appropriate to intensive field service. The package does not include the paint or adhesives needed for assembly.
