1/35 WWII German King Tiger Initial 4in1
The Takom 1/35 WWII German King Tiger Initial (Sd.Kfz. 182) is a plastic model kit of a German heavy tank from the Second World War, designed to be assembled. The kit depicts an early (initial) production variant of the Königstiger with a Henschel turret and an 88mm KwK 43 L/71 gun. The pack typically includes plastic parts, decals for several marking variants and track links. The 1:35 scale allows for a detailed representation of one of the most powerful tanks of its time. The pack does not contain the paints or adhesives required for assembly.
The King Tiger (Tiger II, Sd.Kfz. 182) was one of the heaviest and most heavily armed tanks deployed by Germany during the Second World War. It was developed in response to the need for a vehicle that would combine heavy armour with a gun capable of destroying virtually any Allied tank at long range. Its main armament was the 88mm KwK 43 L/71 gun, one of the most effective anti-tank guns of its time, and its sloped frontal armour, designed based on experience from the Eastern Front, provided exceptional protection. However, this power came at the cost of heavy weight, demanding maintenance and high fuel consumption, which limited the vehicles’ mobility and availability in the field.
The ‘initial’ production variant represents the early Tiger II models, which feature a number of details that differ from later production runs — typically in the turret fittings, the design of the extensions and other minor details, which modellers and collectors value as characteristic features of early vehicles. For modellers, this early version is particularly interesting as it captures the appearance of the vehicle at the very start of its deployment.
The Takom 1:35 scale kit is a glue-together model comprising parts for the lower and upper hull sections, a Henschel turret, the main gun with its muzzle cover, the running gear with road wheels and drive wheels, tracks, and decals for several marking variants. The 1:35 scale is the most widespread among military model-makers, and there is therefore a wide range of add-ons, figures and accessories available for creating dioramas. With this type of model, it is common to highlight welds and cast surfaces, apply operational grime, dust and mud according to the chosen setting, and add edge wear consistent with heavy combat service. The pack does not contain the paints or adhesives required for assembly.
