1/72 Seafire Mk.XV
Supermarine Seafire Mk.XV was a British deck fighter aircraft derived from the Spitfire, modified for operation from aircraft carriers(reinforced landing gear, landing hook and other naval modifications). It was one of the later versions of the Seafir with more powerful propulsion, intended for service with the Fleet Air Arm in the late war and post-war period. Sword Models 1/72 scale kit includes masks.
The Supermarine Seafire Mk.XV represents one of the most important later variants of the deck Seafire, i.e. the naval version of the famous Spitfire. The basic concept was based on the land-based fighter, but a number of modifications were necessary for carrier service: the design was adapted to harder deck landings, the aircraft was given a landing hook for rope catching and other features typical of naval service. The Seafire thus combined the excellent flight characteristics of the Spitfire family with the requirements of the Fleet Air Arm (FAA), although deck duty placed significantly higher demands on the design and piloting.
The Mk.XV version was one of the more powerful versions of the Seafire and is associated with a period when the airborne fighter force was rapidly moving towards higher performance and better armament. The Seafire Mk.XV appears at the turn of the Second World War and the first post-war years, when it was usedin the British naval air force as a deck-based fighter for alliance protection and escort duties. For modellers, it is an attractive combination of the "spitfire" silhouette and typical naval features that distinguish the Seafire from conventional land-based versions.
Sword Models' 1/72nd scale kit is suitable for building the Seafire Mk.XV deck fighter, and the package includes masks to facilitate clean painting of the glazing. Paint and glue are not included.
