1/48 P-47D-15/16 THUNDERBOLT. PTO RAZORBACKS. BASIC KIT
MiniArt 1/48 P-47D-15/16 Thunderbolt "PTO Razorbacks" (Basic Kit) is a kit of the iconic American fighter deployed in the Pacific theatre during WWII. The Razorback variant with the typical "back" behind the cockpit was prized for its durability, long range and ability to carry extensive armament. The model depicts the medium-war D-15/16 blocks that served with USAAF units in New Guinea, the Philippines, and the South Pacific. The kit offers detailed fuselage and wing surfaces, accurate Razorback shape and quality accessories - an ideal choice for modelers interested in Pacific operations.
The Republic P-47D Thunderbolt was one of the most durable fighter and attack aircraft of World War II. Its rugged construction, combined with a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine and a rich armament of eight machine guns of .50, allowed it to carry out both fighter escort and heavy attacks against ground targets. The P-47D-15/16 Razorback variant represented the middle stage of the D-series evolution - it retained the typical "razorback" behind the cockpit, brought upgraded equipment and could carry underwing tanks or bombs, which greatly increased its operational flexibility.
In Pacific operations, Razorbacks served with a number of 5th Air Force squadrons. Their combination of range, reliability, and high resistance to antiaircraft fire made them ideal aircraft for missions over jungle, sea, and isolated battlefields such as New Guinea, Borneo, and the Philippines. Pilots especially appreciated the area's ability to survive hits, carry heavy armament, and return from even difficult combat flights.
The 1/48th scale MiniArt P-47D-15/16 "PTO Razorbacks" offer the precision craftsmanship typical of the latest generation of models. The kit features a precisely sculpted Razorback fuselage, detailed surface with engraving and riveting, realistic engine, landing gear shafts and cockpit. The Basic Kit version focuses on a clean, easy to build core model without unnecessary detail, but with high fidelity rendering and the ability to create an authentic likeness of the machines deployed in the Pacific theatre. Also included are high quality decals for selected USAAF machines.
