1/350 USS SAN DIEGO CL-53 (ATORI BRAND)

USS San Diego (CL-53), the second unit of the Atlanta class, entered service in early 1942 and soon became one of the US Navy's most actively deployed light cruisers. The class was designed as a specialized anti-aircraft escort for carrier groups, which reflected its exceptional armament of versatile 127mm guns deployed in eight twin gun turrets. San Diego escorted U.S. aircraft carriers during key operations in the South and Central Pacific, including the battles of Guadalcanal, theoperations in the Gilbert and Marshall Islands, the invasion of Saipan, and later during the campaigns against the Philippines and Okinawa.

Thanks to her reliability, strong armament and high deployment, the USS San Diego gained an extraordinary reputation - during the war she underwent multiplemore than 30 combat operations and received 18 battle stars, making her one of the most decorated American ships of World War II.
