1/32 Tempest Mk.V ‘Doodle-bug Hunters’
Special Hobby 1/32 Tempest Mk.V "Doodle-bug Hunters" is a 1/32 scale model of a British WWII fighter. The Tempests of this series were deployed to repel German V-1 missile attacks and their pilots achieved a number of successful kills. The kit features four markings of the Allied pilots who took part in these battles.
The Hawker Tempest was developed as an improved successor to the Typhoon fighter, which had shown its limitations in combat against the German Fw 190. The design team led by Sydney Cam redesigned the airframe, fitted a more powerful engine and modified the wings. The new aircraft was named the Tempest and became one of the best Allied fighters of World War II. Its speed and firepower made it useful not only in conventional fighter missions, but also in strikes against ground targets and, above all, in the defence of Britain against V-1 flying bombs.
It was the Tempest pilots who achieved many kills with these retaliatory weapons, and it was the pilots of various nationalities serving in the RAF who excelled - from the British, to the Poles, to the Americans and New Zealanders. The Tempest thus became a symbol of the effective defence of British skies in the closing stages of the war.
The 1/32 scale Special Hobby kit offers a highly detailed design with a fine riveted finish. The plastic parts are complemented by 3D printed radar and radiator protection components, as well as etched elements. Included are two decal sheets with four camouflages of Tempests piloted by the Allies who shot down V-1 missiles, and a complete set of decals including interior and additional tanks.
The package does not include the paints or adhesives needed for assembly.
