Tamiya 61095 Focke-Wulf Fw190 A-8/A-8 R2
The Tamiya 1/48 Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-8/A-8 R2 is a plastic kit of the German fighter aircraft. It can be built either as a basic A-8 or as the heavily armed R2 'bomber killer'.
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was one of the Luftwaffe's best front-line fighters of WWII. The most widely produced variant was the A-8, armed with four 20 mm cannon and two 13 mm machine guns. In 1944, as the USA stepped up its long-range strategic bombing campaign with heavily armed B-17s and B-24s, the R2 sub-variant appeared: two of the 20 mm cannon gave way to more powerful 30 mm guns, and extra armour protected the aircraft when attacking four-engined bombers.
Kit 61095 from Tamiya's 1/48 Aircraft Series includes parts for both versions. Two sets of gun fairings allow early or late production A-8s, while an armoured canopy and armour panel stickers accurately depict the R2. Two types of propeller, a pilot figure and decals for five marking options complete the package.
In 1/48 scale the cockpit detail and the armour that sets the R2 apart from a regular A-8 are clearly visible. Five marking options offer a choice of Luftwaffe camouflage schemes. Paints and glues required for assembly are not included.
