1/48 Mil Mi-17 Hip - AMK
We present a model of the Soviet/Russian multi-purpose transport helicopter Mil Mi-17 (export designation Hip), which is a modernized and more powerful successor to the legendary Mi-8. The 1:48 scale kit from AvantGarde Model Kits (AMK) focuses on the early operational variants(Mi-8MT in Russian service).
This kit features a high level of detail in the interior of the cargo bay and cabin, and includes a unique feature: realistically curved rotor blades right out of the mold, adding authenticity to the model. The package includes metal etched parts, cannon containers and coloring options for Czechoslovak/Czech Air Force and other exotic users.
The Mil Mi-17 (NATO code: Hip-H) is an evolution of the world's most widely used transport helicopter, the Mi-8. It was designed by the Mil design bureau in the Soviet Union and first flew in 1975. In Soviet and Russian service it is known as the Mi-8MT, while the Mi-17 designation is used for export variants.
The key differences of the early Mi-17 variants compared to the Mi-8 are:
-
Motorization: The Mi-17 received more powerful Klimov TV3-117MT engines and an improved gearbox, which greatly improved performance, especially at higher altitudes and in high temperatures (the so-called "high altitude"). In hot and high conditions.)
-
Tail rotor: the Mi-17 has its tail rotor relocated from the right side to the left side of the tail spar, which is the most accurate visual distinguishing feature.
-
Transport and combat capabilities: The increased performance has made the Mi-17 an even more robust and reliable platform that It served not only to transport people and cargo (up to 30 people or 4 tons of cargo), but also as an armed battleship (gunship) carrying missiles and bombs.
The Mi-17 was exported to approximately 60 countries and remains one of the most widely used and reliable helicopters today. Its early versions actively participated in conflicts around the world, including the Czechoslovak and later the Czech and Slovak armed forces.
