Fokker D.XXI 4. Sarja with Wasp Junior Engine in 1/48 scale by Special Hobby is a Finnish version of the Dutch fighter aircraft used during WWII. The fourth series machines were equipped with the American Pratt & Whitney R-985 Wasp Junior engine, which improved their performance in Arctic conditions. Sarja with Wasp Junior Engine in 1/48 scale by Special Hobby captures the Finnish licensed production of this Dutch fighter aircraft, which proved its worth during the Winter and Continuation Wars. Unlike the original Dutch version, the Finnish machines were gradually improved, with the fourth series receiving a new Pratt & Whitney R-985 Wasp Junior engine, which provided greater reliability in extreme winter conditions.
Aircraft of this series took an active part in the battles against Soviet aircraft and, thanks to their robust design and good manoeuvrability, were used in the defence of Finnish airspace. Although by the end of the war they were no longer sufficient for the more modern Soviet fighters, they remained in service until the early 1950s.
The model features a detailed cockpit, realistic undercarriage and accurately reproduced armament, including machine guns and the ability to carry bombs. The fine paneling and authentic appearance of individual parts make this model an ideal choice for those interested in WWII Finnish aviation.
