MiniArt's Type 59 Early Production 1/35th scale model is a Chinese medium tank based on the Soviet T-54 design, produced since the late 1950s and deployed in a number of Cold War conflicts. The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
The Type 59 was the first mass-produced medium tank of Chinese manufacture and was based on a licensed version of the Soviet T-54A. Production began in 1958 at Plant 617 in Baotou, China, and the tank soon became standard issue for the Chinese People's Army. An early variant of the Type 59 was equipped with a smoothbore gun shield, analogue sights and no night vision system. The tank later participated in a number of conflicts, including the Sino-Vietnam War, Indo-Pakistani clashes, and third world operations, where it was often exported.
