During the Allied invasion of France in 1944, German tank units were deployed in defence against advancing US, British and Canadian forces. Tank crews wore typical Wehrmacht black uniforms or field-coloured overalls, and their position often required quick reaction, coordination and readiness for both combat and retreat.
