Light multi-purpose vehicles based on the Mercedes-Benz 170VK chassis were among the most widely used vehicles of the German army during World War II. This civilian car, adapted to military needs with a reinforced frame, modified chassis and more durable bodywork, served as the basis for various specialised versions. One of these was the Kfz.2, a liaison car designed for radio communication, unit coordination and field command security. This particular variant was characterized by the installation of a radio station, storage boxes for batteries and accessoriesand sometimes an extended antenna system. Combined with its compact size and reliability, the Kfz.2 became a favourite of staff units, reconnaissance detachments and smaller commands.
Type 170VK vehicles were deployed on virtually every front - from France and the Balkans to North Africa and the Eastern Front. They often operated in the close rear of combat formations, where they provided key communications infrastructure. Their mobility and unobtrusive appearance enabled them to move quickly and work efficiently in changing conditions, making them an important logistical and command element.
The 1/35th scale MiniArt kit offers a highly detailed rendition of the Kfz.2 on the 170VK platform, including a faithfully reproduced interior with seats, dashboard and radio equipment. The chassis, engine compartment and bodywork are rendered with fine engraving and realistic structural features. Also included are accessories typical of communications technology, such as storage boxes, antenna and small equipment that give the model an authentic look. All this makes this kit an excellent basis for dioramas focusing on the staff and liaison activities of the German army.
The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
