Information about the original:
The Tornado was developed as part of a joint project between Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom, with the goal of producing a high-performance, multi-role combat aircraft. The primary requirement was to develop a state-of-the-art aircraft capable of conducting penetration and ambush missions at low altitudes. The solution to this need was a twin-engine combat aircraft with variable-geometry wings. The first version was the Tornado IDS (Interdictor/Strike), which was introduced by the British Royal Air Force under the code designation GR.1. It was an aircraft perfectly suited for attack roles and was the first version used by the air forces of all three countries that developed it: the Italian Aeronautica Militare, the German Luftwaffe, and the British RAF. The Tornado IDS participated in various combat operations, during which it was able to fully demonstrate its capabilities.
