The Sukhoi Su-34 multi-role fighter, known by its NATO code name “Fullback,” is a Russian twin-engine, two-seat aircraft capable of performing a variety of tasks, including attack missions, strikes against enemy rear areas, ground assault missions, and naval operations. It was developed based on the reliable and proven design of the Sukhoi Su-27 “Flanker” fighter jet as a replacement for the Sukhoi Su-24 “Fencer” with variable-sweep wings. The Su-34 is characterized by a spacious cockpit in which both crew members—the pilot and the navigator/gunner—sit side by side. Thanks to its powerful Lyulka turbofan engines, the “Fullback” can reach a maximum speed of up to 2,000 km/h. It can also operate in adverse weather conditions and in extremely harsh environments. Its armament consists of a 30-mm cannon, and thanks to 12 hardpoints, it can carry an impressive array of air-to-ground weapons and air-to-air missiles. The Russian company Sukhoi has also developed a special export version designated the Sukhoi Su-32 FN (Fighter Naval). Three of these aircraft were tested by the Indian Air Force in 2015.
