1/48 P-47D-20RA Thunderbolt Saipan 1944 Advanced Kit
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was one of the most significant American fighter aircraft of the Second World War. It was a massive, heavy and robust aircraft powered by a radial engine, which earned a reputation as an exceptionally durable aircraft capable of withstanding considerable combat damage. In addition to its role as an escort fighter, it also excelled as a ground-attack aircraft. The P-47M variant was one of the late-war development versions – a high-speed modification designed primarily to intercept fast-moving targets, and it was among the most powerful production variants of the entire Thunderbolt series.
A characteristic feature of the later aircraft was the so-called dorsal fin, i.e. an additional surface in front of the vertical stabiliser, which improved the aircraft’s directional stability. It is precisely this configuration that gives the model its characteristic late-war silhouette and distinguishes it from earlier versions of the Thunderbolt. For modellers, the P-47M is of interest as a representative of the final phase of development of one of the iconic fighter aircraft of its era.
The MiniArt 1:48 scale kit is part of the Advanced Kit range and depicts the P-47M in the dorsal fin configuration. The model features detailed surface finishes with a fine rivet and panel structure, which effectively replicates the character of the real aircraft’s metal skin. The pack includes three variants of decals, allowing the model to be finished in various markings. The 1:48 scale is a popular choice for fighter aircraft, as it offers a good balance between the size of the model, the level of detail and the space required in a display cabinet. The paints and adhesives required for assembly are not included in the pack.
