The British 105mm L118 Light Gun was developed in the 1970s as a replacement for the aging 105mm L5 Pack Howitzer. The new system was intended to offer longer range, better accuracy and, most importantly, much greater durability and flexibility in deployment. The design allows the gun to be quickly folded into a transport configuration, towed by light vehicles, but also carried by the undercarriage of helicopters such as the Puma or Chinook, or dropped directly from aircraft during airborne operations.

The L118 Light Gun first proved itself significantly during the Falklands War in 1982, where it provided key artillery support to British troops in difficult terrain. Since then, it has been deployed in Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan and on a number of NATO missions around the world. Its reliability, relatively light weight and high performance have made it one of the most successfulartillery system of its category and is still in service with more than ten armies today.

The Airfix 1/76 British 105mm Light Field Gun kit faithfully captures the design of the modern light howitzer with realistic details of the breech, shield, cannon arms and wheeled chassis. The accurate design makes it suitable for depicting contemporary or post-war scenes, whether combined with British armoured vehicles, airborne troops or dioramas of modern conflicts.
