The Savoia-Marchetti S.M.79 "Sparviero" (Sparrowhawk) was one of the most famous Italian bombers of World War II. The three-engined medium bomber with a characteristic bumpy hull and a rigid undercarriage proved particularly useful as a destroyer in the Mediterranean, where it achieved remarkable success against Allied convoys.
