The Henschel Hs 123 was a German single-engine biplane dive bomber and battleplane that was developed in the mid-1930s and served with the Luftwaffe from the Spanish Civil War until the second half of World War II. Although it was considered obsolete in its day and was soon to be replaced, its durability, manoeuvrability and ability to operate from field airfields kept it in active service considerably longer than originally planned - particularly on the Eastern Front, where it proved an effective machine for direct support of ground troops.
