The BMW i8 is the epitome of a futuristic sports car that hides the very latest in revolutionary modern technology beneath its bodywork. The rear axle of this hybrid is powered by a three-cylinder engine that, despite its unremarkable 1.5-liter displacement, delivers an incredible 170 kW (231 koní) and 320 Nm of torque. The front axle further boosts overall performance, as it is additionally powered by a 96 kW (131 koní) electric motor. The interaction between the two engines is optimized by an intelligent energy management system. And the result? The performance characteristics of a true sports car with fuel consumption and emissions figures comparable to those of a small car. The i8 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds and reaches a top speed traditionally limited by BMW to 250 km/h.
