The German armored car “Schwerer Panzerspähwagen Sd.Kfz. 234/2,” known as the “Puma,” was developed and produced by the German war machine in the final years of World War II. The vehicle proved its worth thanks to an excellent combination of mobility, protection, and firepower, which built upon the operational experience gained by the Wehrmacht in the early stages of the conflict. Starting in 1939, the German Army used armored vehicles very effectively for advanced reconnaissance missions and also to provide ground support for its units. The “Puma” was initially a reconnaissance vehicle, but thanks to its 50mm KwK 39 L/60 cannon, it could be used just as effectively in offensive operations against infantry and other armored vehicles. A limited number were deployed on both the Eastern and Western Fronts. Its highly effective independent suspension system for all eight wheels and powerful engine allowed the Puma to reach speeds of up to 90 km/h on the battlefield, across all types of terrain.
