The M6 Gun Motor Carriage was based on the famous Dodge WC52 4x4, onto whose rear body a light 37mm anti-tank gun was mounted. Thanks to its Dodge T-214 six-cylinder engine, the M6 could reach a maximum speed of 90 km/h on the road. The United States Army used it from late 1942 until the end of World War II on all fronts, from the Mediterranean and European battlefields to the Pacific. The GMC M6 was designed and built with the goal of creating an anti-tank vehicle, but from the very first engagements in Tunisia, its gun was often ineffective against the latest armor of German tanks. Its primary operational role therefore shifted somewhat, and the M6 began to be used for infantry support.
