Information about the original:
The Ford Escort Mk 2 was introduced in 1975. Compared to the Escort Mk 1 model unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show in 1968, it represented a major leap forward. The new version retained the high-quality mechanics of its predecessor but was completely redesigned to reflect the aesthetic and stylistic tastes of the 1970s. In addition to more practical versions, there was also the Escort Sport, which featured a more aggressive look and a distinctly sporty interior. Finally, the RS 1800 version was introduced, featuring a twin-shaft engine producing 115 koní, which served as the basis for a special version used in the World Rally Championship and achieved significant results. The iconic Zakspeed team built and raced a special version of the Escort Mk 2 from 1977 to 1978.
