Information about the original:
The Boeing EA-18G Growler was designed to meet a specific requirement of the U.S. Navy. The Navy sought a new aircraft for aircraft carriers specializing in electronic warfare to replace the obsolete Grumman EA-6B Prowler. The Growler is directly derived from the F/A-18F Super Hornet tandem-seat fighter and retains all of its key aerodynamic features and characteristics. General Electric engines enable the Growler to reach a maximum speed of Mach 1.8, and its flight performance is similar to that of the U.S. Navy’s primary carrier-based aircraft. The two-person crew consists of a pilot and a WSO (Weapons Systems Operator). The 20mm cannon from the F/A-18’s armament has been replaced on the Growler with a specialized electronic warfare system. In addition, the Growler can carry high- and low-frequency jammers, auxiliary fuel tanks, and AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles on its pylons.
