Information about the original:
The Curtiss P-40, based on the design of the earlier single-seat Curtiss P-36 fighter with a radial engine, became one of the most famous and widely used aircraft of World War II. Between 1941 and 1944, it also played a key role on many battlefields, from North Africa to Italy, and from China to the South Pacific. It was characterized by a very robust and reliable aerodynamic design and was powered by an Allison V-12 engine with an output of more than 1,150 koní. Thanks to this, the Curtiss P-40 could reach a speed of 580 km/h. It served as an aircraft for gaining air superiority and as a fighter-bomber. One of its most successful variants was the P-40E. It was used by American fighter squadrons and, under the designation “Kittyhawk,” by the Commonwealth air forces as well. It was heavily armed with six 12.7 mm M2 Browning machine guns mounted in the wings. In addition, thanks to its wing pylons, it could carry nearly 900 kg of bombs, making it capable of performing close air support missions as well.
