Information about the original:
The twin-engine Douglas DC-3 was undoubtedly one of the most famous transport aircraft in the entire history of aviation, primarily due to its reliability, flexibility, and longevity. During World War II, a version specifically designed for military missions was developed: the Douglas C-47 Skytrain. American factories produced it in large numbers, and the Allies made extensive use of these aircraft on all fronts. This was particularly true of the C-47s that served with the Royal Air Force and the Commonwealth air forces. These were designated “Dakota” and performed logistical tasks, tactical transport missions, and were also used for parachute drops and medical evacuations. Thanks to their two 1,200-horsepower Pratt & Whitney engines, the “Dakotas” could reach a maximum speed of 360 km/h. In terms of transport capacity, they could carry a payload of 2,500 kg or 28 soldiers.
