The military DC-3
The C-47 Skytrain was the principal military version of the DC-3, an aircraft known in many parts of the world as the Dakota. In service it could be configured either as a troop transport with folding benches or as a heavy freighter, which explains its wide wartime use.
A career beyond 1945
The type remained active after the Second World War and appeared in the Berlin Airlift, in Korea and in the Arab-Israeli conflicts. The same aircraft family later produced the offensive AC-47, which became well known in Vietnam.
