The Tiger 1 entered service in autumn 1942 and was among the most advanced tanks of its day. Its firepower and armour made it a formidable opponent, but the design was also complex and expensive to manufacture. That limited production, and only 1,347 Tiger 1s were built between 1942 and 1944.
