AK Interactive AK088 Worn Effects Acrylic Fluid (35 ml)
AK Interactive AK088 Worn Effects Acrylic Fluid (35 ml) is an odorless, water-activated acrylic medium designed for creating fine to medium abrasions, scratches, and localized paint wear. It replaces the hairspray method and allows you to reveal the underlying paint in a controlled manner. For pronounced flaking and large chunks of paint, AK089 Heavy Effects Acrylic Fluid is more suitable. Volume: 35 ml.
AK Interactive AK088 Worn Effects Acrylic Fluid (35 ml) is an acrylic product designed for fine to medium scuffs, scratches, and localized paint wear. It is applied between the base coat and the topcoat of acrylic paint. When moistened with water, it allows the top layer to be broken down in a controlled manner, revealing the paint underneath. For pronounced flaking and large chunks of paint, AK089 Heavy Effects Acrylic Fluid is more suitable.
Recommended Procedure
- First, paint the model with a shade that should be visible beneath the abrasions, such as a dark base color, rust, or a metallic shade. Allow the base coat to cure completely.
- Apply the medium with a brush or airbrush in an even and sufficient layer to the areas where wear is intended. Let it dry.
- Apply a top coat of acrylic paint over the medium. Work with a reasonably thin layer so that it can be scratched off in a controlled manner later.
- Once the top layer of acrylic paint is dry to the touch, moisten a small section with clean water and let it briefly soak through to the medium.
- Create finer scuffs with a damp brush; use a toothpick or tweezers to add individual, sharper scratches. Work in small sections and gradually increase the intensity.
- Allow the result to dry thoroughly. Before further weathering, you can seal it with a suitable varnish according to the subsequent technique.
Important Guidelines
- Activation is performed with clean water, not White Spirit or enamel thinner.
- This is not a paint or a final varnish; it is an intermediate layer intended exclusively for creating scuffs.
- You’ll have the best control by working on smaller areas. A topcoat that’s too thick is more difficult to remove.
- Before applying to the finished model, test the combination of base coat, medium, and topcoat on a sample.
