Information about the original and the model:
The North American P-51 Mustang is considered by many to be one of the most iconic American fighter aircraft of World War II. It was designed according to RAF specifications but was later modified after the installation of a more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. Thanks to its long range and excellent firepower, the P-51D became an outstanding escort fighter, capable of protecting bombers all the way to Berlin and back. The P-51 went down in history as the most successful Allied fighter of the entire war, with 4,950 enemy aircraft shot down. In 1948, the Mustang’s model designation was changed to F-51D, and it continued to serve in the USAF and RAAF as a ground-attack aircraft even during the Korean War.
