1/72 Supermarine Spitfire Mk Vb (Trop.) over North Africa 1942-43

The Supermarine Spitfire is one of the most famous fighter aircraft in history and became a symbol of British aviation during the Second World War. The Mk Vb version was one of the most widespread variants of this type and was characterised by armament combining machine guns and a pair of 20mm Hispano cannons, which increased its firepower against the enemies of the time. The tropicalised version (Trop.) was adapted for deployment in areas with dusty and hot climates — a distinctive feature being the large Vokes dust filter beneath the nose, which protected the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine from sand and debris being sucked in. It was in this configuration that Spitfires operated over North Africa in 1942–1943, where they took part in the battles for air supremacy over the desert.

This 1:72 scale IBG kit depicts this specific aircraft in North African service and offers modellers the opportunity to build a historically interesting variant associated with one of the war’s most famous theatres of war.
