1/72 Su-20 in Polish Air Force

The Sukhoi Su-20 was an export variant of the Soviet Su-17 fighter-bomber, the first mass-produced Soviet combat aircraft with variable-sweep wings. This design made it possible to combine the advantages of swept-back wings for high speeds with better take-off and landing characteristics at lower sweep angles, which was particularly appreciated by units operating from field and shorter airfields. The Su-20 was designed for attacks on ground targets and carried a wide range of bombs and missiles, making it an important component of the Warsaw Pact states’ strike forces.

The Polish Air Force (Polskie Siły Powietrzne) introduced the Su-20 into service in the 1970s, and for many years these aircraft formed the backbone of Poland’s tactical strike squadrons. For modellers, the Su-20 in Polish colours is an attractive subject thanks to its distinctive camouflage and prominent operational markings, which can be faithfully reproduced using the included decals.

This 1:72 scale kit combines a high-quality plastic set from Modelsvit with photo-etched (PE) parts, which allow for finer detailing, and a decal sheet produced by IBG Models. This includes a complete selection of stencils – that is, small technical inscriptions and warning markings – which allow the model to be finished to a realistic standard matching the actual prototype in service. The pack does not contain the paints or adhesives required for assembly.
