1/48 Supermarine Seafire Mk.III Last Fights Over
Brand: Special Hobby

The Supermarine Seafire was an airborne version of the legendary Spitfire, adapted for operation from aircraft carriers of the British Royal Navy. While the Spitfire dominated over Europe, the Seafire had to face the specific challenges of naval aviation - a strengthened design for catapult launches and landing hook interception, resistance to corrosion in the marine environment and the ability to operate from the confined spaces of aircraft carriers' decks. The Mk.III version was the first fully compliant for shipboard service with improved landing gear and folding wings, allowing for more efficient storage on ships. Seafirs operated in the Pacific during the final phase of the war, when British forces were actively supporting Allied operations against Japan.

This Special Hobby kit depicts three specific machines from the final battles in the Pacific. The first variant features the aircraft of Sub/Lt R.H. Reynolds, the pilot with the highest number of kills in the Seafire type, making him a significant figure in the history of the aircraft. The second variant documents the machine of Sub/Lt G.J. Murphy, who made history as a participant in the very last air combat of British naval fighters in WW2. On the morning of August 15, 1945, the day of the Japanese surrender, Murphy shot down two Mitsubishi A6M Zero Japanese fighter planes. A third variant completes the picture of Seafarer operations in the Pacific theatre. For modellers, these machines represent not only technically interesting objects (the Spitfire's deck modifications), but also authentic stories associated with specific pilots and historical moments.

The kit includes five grey plastic frames with finely detailed parts, an injection-moulded cockpit for improved accuracy and detail, photo-etched parts (etched parts) to increaseto enhance the realism of small features such as seat belts, instrument panel or exterior details, and high quality decals for all three marking options. The 1:48 scale offers an optimum ratio between detail and model size, allowing precise work on surface panels, armament and the characteristic naval camouflage. Paneling highlighting techniques, wear and tear caused by salt air and aircraft carrier traffic, or traces of intense combat missions can be applied in finishing the model. The package does not include the paint or adhesives needed for assembly.
