The Messerschmitt Bf 109E, nicknamed "Emil", was one of the most important German fighter aircraft of the first half of World War II. This version took an active part in the Battle of Britain, the Balkan campaign and the early operations on the Eastern Front, and became a symbol of the German fighter aviation in 1939-1941. The pilot's instrument panel was one of the distinctive features of the cockpit - the clear layout of the instruments reflected the German design philosophy and was adapted to the demands of fast combat flight.
