This unusual vehicle illustrates the improvisations of German units toward the end of World War II. The package does not include the paints or adhesives needed for assembly.
The Sd.Kfz.251 Ausf.D was one of the most widely used German half-track armored personnel carriers, entering production in 1943. The D version featured a simplified design, which allowed for faster and cheaper production. This vehicle was intended for transporting infantry and also served as the basis for a number of specialized variants.
Amid the chaos of the final years of the war, various field modifications of these transporters emerged, including the installation of turrets from captured tanks. One example is the conversion of the Sd.Kfz.251 Ausf.D with a turret from a French Renault R35, which provided the crew with additional firepower in the form of a cannon and a machine gun. These improvised vehicles were used primarily on the Eastern Front and represent an interesting example of the Wehrmacht’s technical ingenuity.
The Border Model kit in 1/35 scale allows you to build this unconventional and rare type, featuring a highly detailed transporter hull and a realistically rendered R35 turret. The model offers the opportunity to create an attractive and unusual piece of military equipment for dioramas set at the end of World War II.
The package does not include the paints or adhesives needed for assembly.
