The Panzerbefehlswagen III Ausf.K was a command tank based on the proven Pz.Kpfw. III design. These specially modified vehicles were equipped with enhanced radio sets and command equipment, which enabled effective control of tank units in combat. The Ausf.K version was based on the Panzer III Ausf.J chassis and was produced in limited numbers during 1942, with some vehicles subsequently modified directly from tanks that had already been manufactured.
A significant innovation was the use of additional Schürzen armor plates, which protected the tank’s flanks against anti-tank rifles and shaped-charge munitions. These modifications appeared on the front lines starting in 1943, particularly on the Eastern Front, where the Panzer III continued to perform support and command duties, even as it was gradually replaced by more modern types.
The Border Model 1/35 scale kit offers a highly detailed model of this rare command tank, including a faithful reproduction of the radio equipment, finely rendered surface details, and realistically rendered Schürzen.
