1/32 I-16 t.10 recommended for ICM / Special Hobby

The Polikarpov I-16 was one of the pioneering fighter aircraft of the 1930s and was the first mass-produced single-seat fighter with a closed all-metal fuselage and retractable landing gear. The Type 10 was one of the key variants to emerge in the second half of the 1930s and was deployed in the Spanish Civil War, the conflicts at Chalkhin Gol and the Winter War against Finland. For the Soviet Air Force at the time, the I-16 was a modern machine with good manoeuvrability and solid armament, although by the time of the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War it was already lagging behind newer types in terms of design. Nevertheless, it remained on the front line in 1941 and served in support roles in the following years.

The I-16's dashboard was relatively simple but functional - typical of Soviet aircraft of the time, with an emphasis on clarity and durability. Plastic panels in kits often lack the subtlety and depth that a photo-etched replacement can provide. Yahu Models offers a solution that provides carved holes for dials, finer relief of controls, and an overall more realistic cockpit appearance. Photo etching allows you to capture thin instrument bezels, tiny levers, and details that would remain only hinted at or completely absent in plastic.

Working with photo etching requires patience and the right tools - sharp scissors or a scalpel to separate parts from the support frame, tweezers for handling and special glue (e.g. A special adhesive, such as cyanoacrylate or transparent contact adhesive) that quickly fixes thin metal. Before installation, it is advisable to first colour the panel according to the chosen reference (typically a dark grey or black base with white or light coloured dials and coloured details), or use decals for the numerals and markers. Once dry, the panel is fitted to the cockpit of the kit - Yahu Models designs their kits to fit the specific manufacturer and version (in this case ICM/Special Hobby) so the panel should fit without the need for major modifications.

The result is a significantly more detailed and true-to-life cockpit that stands out especially when the cowling is open or when photographing the model. For modelers looking to push their build beyond the basic out-of-the-box composition, a photo-etched panel is one of the most effective upgrades. The package does not include the glue or paint needed to complete it.
