The Supermarine Spitfire is one of the most famous fighter aircraft of all time, famous for its pivotal role during the Battle of Britain. After the end of World War II, a number of these machines were converted to two-seat trainer versions, including the Spitfire Tr.9 variant, which was created by converting a single-seat Spitfire Mk.IX, with a second cockpit for the instructor.
The Spitfire Tr.9 served primarily in post-war flight schools and with Allied air forces, where it provided an excellent platform for advanced training. Due to the Spitfire's retention of its distinctive flight characteristics and excellent manoeuvrability, it was ideal for introducing pilots to fast piston-powered machines before moving on to jet aircraft.
