The Messerschmitt Bf 109E-1 was the first mass-produced version of the famous Luftwaffe fighter, deployed during the invasion of Poland in 1939 and in France and the Battle of Britain in 1940. This variant was armed with four MG 17 machine guns and represented a modern and powerful machine of its time.
