1/72 Westland Puma HC.1
Airfix 1/72 Westland Puma HC.1 is a kit of one of the most important multi-purpose helicopters of the British Armed Forces. The Puma HC.1, a licensed British version of the French SA 330 Puma, has served as an RAF transport, airborne and support helicopter since the early 1970s. The 1/72nd scale model captures the characteristic silhouette of the machine with its twin-engine layout, large cabin space and typicaltail spar as we know it from operations in Europe, the Falklands, the Middle East and Afghanistan.
The Westland Puma HC.1 was built as a British licence modification of the French Sud Aviation/ Aérospatiale SA 330 Puma helicopter, which was one of the most successful transport helicopters of its time. The first machines were introduced into RAF service in the early 1970s and quickly became a staple for tactical transport of personnel and materiel. With its twin Rolls-Royce Turbomeca Turmo engines, spacious fuselage and rugged construction, the Puma was able to operate effectively in a wide variety offrom the European climate to the hot and dusty regions of the Middle East.
From the Falklands conflict in 1982, to peacekeeping operations in Bosnia, to intensive deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Puma HC.1 has participated in a number of major missions. It stood out for its reliability, good flight characteristics and ability to quickly transport paratroopers, medical teams or supplies directly into combat zones. Thanks to upgrades, it remained in RAF service for several decades and became one of the UK's longest serving armoured transport helicopters.
The Airfix 1/72 Westland Puma HC.1 kit offers a detailed model of this iconic helicopter with a realistic cabin, crew seats and cargo area. The fuselage carries fine surface detail, the rotor units are faithfully sculpted and the transparent parts accurately replicate the typical cockpit glazing. The kit allows the machine to be assembled in the form used by the RAF in various deployment locations, including later camouflages typical of operations abroad.
The model is suitable for fans of RAF helicopters as well as for creators of modern dioramas and collectors of iconic British equipment in NATO service.
The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
