1/72 IL-2M "Black Death"

The Ilyushin Il-2 was the Soviet Union's primary combat aircraft during World War II and was one of the most produced combat aircraft in history. The first versions of the Il-2 were single-seaters, but due to heavy losses in combat, the design was redesignedand a two-seat Il-2M variant was created, which added a rear gunner and strengthened armour and armament. This modification increased the crew's chances of survival and effectiveness when attacking ground targets.

The aircraft was armed with 20-23 mm caliber ŠVAK or VJa guns and carried bombs as well as RS-82 and RS-132 unguided rockets. Its rugged construction and heavy armour earned it the nickname "Black Death", given to it by German soldiers on the Eastern Front. The Il-2 was used in all major Soviet offensives from Stalingrad to Berlin and became an icon of Red Army frontline aviation.
