1/72 IL-2 Interim Guners Station
KPM 1/72 IL-2 Interim Gunner's Station is a 1/72 scale plastic kit depicting an intermediate version of the famous Soviet Ilyushin Il-2 battleship. This type, produced in the early stages of World War II, carried a provisionally modified rear gunnery station as a contingency solution to increase the machine's defensive capabilities. The model captures this rare design variant in a high level of detail.
The Ilyushin Il-2, known as the "Sturmovik", was the backbone of Soviet combat aviation and one of the most important aircraft of World War II. Its main mission was to destroy armoured targets and support ground troops on the front line. The first production versions of the Il-2 were single-seaters, but due to heavy losses caused by German fighter attacks, it was decided to add a rear gunner.
The transitional machines, known as Interim Gunner's Stations, were created by improvising modifications to the original single-seat fuselages, into which a second crew member with a gunner's station was improvisationally installed. These modifications were often carried out by field workshops or smaller factories, and varied greatly in appearance and construction details. Nevertheless, these machines played an important role until a production two-seat version of the Il-2 with a redesigned fuselage was introduced.
KPM's 1/72nd scale kit captures this rare transitional version with its realistically rendered gunnery position and fine surface details. The model allows to build a historically faithful replica of one of the most interesting intermediate stages in the development of the legendary "Stormtrooper".
The package does not include paint or glue needed for assembly.
