1/48 F-4EJ Kai PHANTOM II

The McDonnell Douglas F-4EJ Kai was created by upgrading licensed F-4EJ Phantom II fighter aircraft that had been in service with the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) since the early 1970s. The modernization program was initiated in the 1980s to extend the service life of the aircraft and increase their combat effectiveness. The Kai ("upgraded") version received a new AN/APG-66J radar, modern avionics, digital weapons control and a system for the use of guided munitions. These modifications made the aircraft a fully-fledged multi-role fighter, capable of attacking both air and ground targets.

The F-4EJ Kai remained in service until 2020, when it was gradually replaced by the more modern F-15J and F-35A types. Despite its age, it was valued for its rugged construction, reliability and exceptional flight characteristics. During its service it formed the backbone of the Japanese Air Defence Force and participated in many exercises and international events, earning it the status of one of the JASDF's most famous aircraft.

The 1/48 scale Zoukei Mura kit from the "Super Wing Series" offers an excellent level of detail and design accuracy.
