The T-55AMD is a modernized version of the Soviet T-55 medium tank, equipped with the Drozd active protection system. The Drozd system was developed in the 1970s as the world’s first operational active protection system, designed to protect tanks from anti-tank missiles and RPGs. It uses a 24.5 GHz Doppler radar to detect incoming projectiles and, in the event of a threat, fires a 107 mm projectile that destroys the threat before it reaches the tank.
The 1/35-scale T-55AMD kit from Rye Field Model offers modelers the opportunity to build a detailed replica of this modernized tank. The kit contains precision-molded plastic parts for a realistic reproduction of both the vehicle’s exterior and interior, including functional tracks and a sophisticated suspension system. Also included are photo-etched parts for fine details, such as grilles and other small components, which enhance the model’s authenticity. Decals allow you to choose between various camouflage schemes used by the Soviet Army.
Thanks to its high level of detail and precise craftsmanship, this model is ideal for experienced modelers interested in Soviet armored vehicles from the Cold War era. The package does not include the paints or adhesives needed for assembly.
