The Messerschmitt Bf-109E, nicknamed "Emil", was one of the most important fighter aircraft of the Luftwaffe in the early stages of World War II. This version was used en masse during the campaigns in Poland, France and especially in the Battle of Britain in 1940, where it formed the backbone of the German fighter force. The Bf-109E represented a significant improvement over previous variants, thanks to the more powerful Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine, which allowing speeds of over 560 km/h, and improved armament including two MG 17 machine guns and two MG FF guns.
