1/32 Henschel Hs 129 B-3

The Henschel Hs 129 was a specially designed Luftwaffe combat aircraft designed for direct support of ground troops and tank destruction. The first prototypes were built in the late 1930s, but it was not until the Hs 129B version that it became a fully operational machine. The aircraft was small, heavily armoured and powered by a pair of Gnome-Rhône 14M engines, which gave it enough power to carry heavy armament, although its flight characteristics were demanding.

The pinnacle of development was the Hs 129 B-3 variant, armed with a massive 75mm BK 7.5 gun derived from the PaK 40 anti-tank gun. This version was capable of destroying even the most heavily protected Soviet tanks, including the T-34 and IS-2, and represented the pinnacle of the Luftwaffe's battle air capabilities. The B-3s operated primarily on the Eastern Front in small numbers, where they earned respect even among their adversaries. Despite the limited number of units produced, the Hs 129 became a symbol of the German effort to create a true "flying tanker".
